World tourism day is a day celebrated every September 27th by the  United Nations World Tourism Organization.  This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide. The theme of the day was "sustainable tourism", in 2017. In 2018 the theme is "Tourism and the Digital Transformation".

At its Twelfth Session in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 1997, the UNWTO General Assembly decided to designate a host country each year to act as the Organization's partner in the celebration of World Tourism Day. At its Fifteenth Session in Beijing, China, in October 2003, the Assembly decided the following geographic order to be followed for World Tourism Day celebrations: 2006 in Europe; 2007 in South Asia; 2008 in the Americas; 2009 in Africa and 2011 in the Middle East.
The late Ignatius Amaduwa Atigbi, a Nigerian national, was the one who proposed the idea of marking September 27 of every year as World Tourism Day. He was finally recognized for his contribution in 2009. The colour of World Tourism Day is Blue.- source wiki.com

Today thursday September 20th is National Punch Day.. National Punch Day is observed each year on September 20. While there are several directions this day could go, such as honoring tools used to make holes or a day created to throw a few punches at a punching bag, we will direct you toward the thirst quenching version of the delicious, refreshing drink.  National Punch Day is listed as one many American Food Holidays.
A wide assortment of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, fall into the category of punch.  Often made with a combination of fruit juice and a carbonated beverage, a punch is served at parties weddings and other celebrations in large, wide bowls known as punch bowls.

Punch was believed to have been introduced by sailors to England via India in the early seventeenth century.   Punch grew quickly in popularity and was soon spread to other countrie..
So to observe, Make some punch. There are thousands of punch recipes available for you on my youtube channel, one link here https://youtu.be/sMC-mz5VK8U Use the hashtag #NationalPunchDay to post on social media and tag us below:-

I'm not too sure about this one as I've always drank coca cola even as a kid.. I have always been a lover of all things coca cola and now it was announced in the early hours of today that Coca-Cola is  looking into developing beverages infused with cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD, the non-psychoactive chemical found in marijuana plants.
According to Canada's BNN Bloomberg, the drinks giant is in talks with local producer Aurora Cannabis about developing marijuana-infused beverages.
These would not aim to intoxicate consumers but to relieve pain.

The firm declined to comment but said it was watching the cannabis drinks market closely.
"Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive cannabidiol as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world," Coca-Cola said in a statement.

Cannabidiol, a constituent of cannabis, can help ease inflammation, pain and cramping, but has no psychoactive effect.
It comes as Canada prepares to follow certain US states in legalising cannabis for recreational use, after years of permitting it for medicinal purposes.
It has given rise to a large pot growing industry and some high-profile partnerships.
Earlier this year, beer giant Molson Coors Brewing said it would make cannabis-infused drinks with Hydropothecary, while Corona-beer maker Constellation Brands invested $4bn more into pot firm Canopy Growth.
A partnership between Coke and Aurora would mark the first entry of a major manufacturer of non-alcoholic drinks into the market.

'Recovery drink'

Quoting unnamed sources, BNN Bloomberg said Coca-Cola was in "serious talks" with Aurora but no deal had been finalised.
"They're pretty advanced down the path" of doing a deal, one source was quoted as saying.
"It's going to be more of the 'recovery drink' category," the source added.
Aurora, in a separate statement, said it would not discuss business development initiatives until they were finalised, but added: "Aurora has expressed specific interest in the infused beverage space, and we intend to enter that market."
Coca-Cola's shares rose marginally in early trade on Monday.- source bbc.co.uk

Another one of my favourites, Linguine.. Oh this brings back memories of when I went to Southern Italy's Positano last year.. The Italians make their pasta from scratch and I really loved this one, gosh it was very flavoursome, fresh and tasty.. I'm surely going back again..

OK back to National Linguine day lol, a bit of background history of Linguine..It originates from the Liguria region of Italy, linguine means “little tongues” in Italian.

source-googleimages

Made from durum semolina flour, linguine is one of the world’s oldest kinds of pasta. Fettuccine and linguine developed around 400 years ago.  While both are thin, flat noodles, linguine is more narrow and elliptical in shape causing it to be a more delicate pasta.  As a result, linguine is paired with thinner, lighter sauces.

Today 13th of September is National Peanut Day.. If you know me so well, you'll know I love me some peanut especially the coconut peanuts from Tropical sun.. If you've never tried it, I'll insert a picture below for you to check out.. Trust me I've got most of my family members and colleagues into it. That's how much I love me some peanuts :-)

OK back to National Peanut Day lol... On September 13 National Peanut Day pays homage to mighty and tasty peanut.

Likely originating in South America around 3,500 years ago, this legume is not a nut. They grow underground like potatoes. Since they are an edible seed that forms in a pod, they belong to the family Leguminosae with peas and beans. When it comes to plants packing protein power, peanuts provide a whopping 8 grams per ounce, more than any other nut according to The Peanut Institute. And remember, it’s not a nut! Nuts grow on trees.

The peanut is also high in antioxidants. Not only are peanuts high in necessary nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, B6, iron, selenium, zinc and many others, but when paired with other nutrient-rich foods, studies have shown this amazing legume helps us absorb nutrients better.

Hello Foodies Happy hump day and happy National Chocolate Milkshake Day.. Today is a day observed each year on September 12 by chocolate and ice cream lovers alike.  Forget the calories in it for just this one day and enjoy a nice tall, thick and delicious, chocolate milkshake! The first time the term “milkshake” was used in print was in 1885.  During this period, milkshake referred to an alcoholic beverage which was an alcoholic drink described as a “sturdy, healthful eggnog type of drink” which was a blend of eggs, whiskey, and other ingredients served both as a tonic and treat at pharmacies..

Here are some food facts about Chocolate Milkshakes/ Milkshakes in general:-

  • By 1900 milkshakes were referred to as “wholesome drinks made with chocolate, strawberry or vanilla syrup.”
  • The early 1900s – People began asking for this “new treat” with a scoop of ice cream.
  • 1911 – The Hamilton Beach’s drink mixers began to be used at soda fountains.
  • 1922 – Steven Poplawski invented the electric blender or drink mixer.
  • Due to the invention of the blender, the milkshake began to take a chipped, aerated and frothy form as they are today.
  • It was by the 1930s that milkshakes became a popular drink in malt shops everywhere

Hey Foodies and Happy National hot cross bun day... I've noticed that not many people like hot cross buns, but I actually don't mind it with some jam, clotted cream and a cuppa on the side.. Sounds nice right??? Well if that sounds tempting, why don't you grab some from a local bakery or the supermarket and join the rest of the world to celebrate this glorious day :-)

Here are some fun facts I found online about hot cross buns... pretty pretty interesting actually...

5 Fun Facts about Hot cross Bun

  1. A hot cross bun is a spiced sweet bun made with currants or raisins and marked with a cross on the top.
  2. Ancient Greeks marked cakes with a cross, to symbolize remembrance of those who have past, ‘Soul Cakes’
  3. They are believed by some to pre-date Christianity, although the first recorded use of the term “hot cross bun” was not until 1733.
  4. It is believed that buns marked with a cross were eaten by Saxons in honour of the goddess Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolised the four quarters of the moon); “Eostre” is probably the origin of the name “Easter”.
  5. In many historically Christian countries, buns are traditionally eaten hot or toasted on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of the Crucifixion.
